Chobimela XI

Since the early 2000s, Chobi Mela is considered one of the most significant photography festivals within the Asian Subcontinent. Design Commune was invited to help develop the visual identity for this year's edition of Chobimela. The eleventh edition of festival, titled 𝘙𝘦, proposes a discourse about whether during these troubling times the process of image making has lost its vitality. The identity design concept draws from the Bengali symbol ঃ (Visarga), taken from the word পুনঃ ('𝘙𝘦'). It is a symbol that represents repetition and renewal: to do again, to begin again, to create anew. ⁣⁣It delves deep into the eternal dialogue between repetition and circle in the Bengali tradition. Hence, the identity was designed as a dynamic, flexible, and inclusive system. It is a living visual language of eternal recurrence, rather than being restricted by a rigid logo. Designed for total brand adaptability, the system was represented seamlessly across digital platforms, social media, print collateral, spatial design, and exhibition venues. Eventually during the festival, the city emerged with the spirit of the 're'.
